The Dash

Today I went to my best friend's father's funeral. They read the Dash poem which I have heard before. I have posted this to remind myself to live life to the fullest. It’s a beautiful reminder about what’s really important in life. So a message to all - Life is too Short so fit as much as you possibly can into that DASH.

The Dash
I read of a man who stood to speak, at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on this tombstone from beginning ….to the end.

He noted that first came his date of birth and spoke the following with tears.
But he said what mattered most of all, was the dash in between those years.

For the dash represents, all the time he spent alive on earth.
And how only those who loved him know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash, what matters most is how we live and love and how we spend our dash…
So think about this long and hard. Are there things you’d like to change?

For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough, to consider what is true and real.
And always try to understand, the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more,
and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile…
Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash
would you be proud of the things they say and how your spent your dash?

District Swimming Carnival

In the backstroke Luke is closest to the edge in the photos and he is in the second lane for breaststroke.

Luke made it to the District Swimming Carnival this year. The night before he got extremely nervous and I didn't think that he would actually swim the next day. But I had told him that it was OK to be nervous and that we would just go and have a look and he could decide whether he wanted to swim or not. Well he swam and did quite well. He came 3rd in his heat for Breaststroke and 4th for Backstroke. My heart was full of pride as he conquered his fear and gave it his best shot. He has swam with the squad for nearly two years so his result was fantastic. A really good day and even Luke said I know not to be scared next time.

You Will Be Happy to Know

On Saturday night the boys had a sleepover at their friends house. Chris and I were going to see a movie but we decided to go to dinner instead. He wanted to go to Rashays - so off we went. I wasn't actually sure if they would serve me after my last visit but apparently they are quite forgiving and I got to eat. So I just thought that I would let you know that I can go back to Rashays - Yippee because I really like their food (and apparently I also really like their Pina Coladas). So this time I was really well behaved and no alcohol was consumed - I did myself proud. I was recognised by a couple of the people who work there as they smirked at me - wish I could remember which ones that I harassed. So girls if you are looking for another night out I am allowed back!!!!

Ben's Drawings

Last weekend Ben got carried away with his drawing. He started by drawing one superhero and then another and before he knew he had a whole army of them. I really love kids drawings and I think that he is quite good at drawing. He does however get very frustrated when things don't go right. Well this masterpiece is proudly hanging on the fridge.

2008 In Review - Album Share

Here is a little scrapbooking share. I really have to thank my good friend Belinda for this album as she gave me her left over "Hoot" papers to get this project done. I hadn't done anything for a while and she helped me out with getting back on the wagon. I really enjoyed getting everything down for the year. It is not until you do this that you realise how much happened in the year.

All Settled in for 2009

OK so the boys and I have gone back to school and Chris back to work. The boys are extremely happy with their teachers and they are enjoying school immensley. They are content and happy. Things are going well. Luke is putting in alot of effort to try and improve his results. He got the the first award for the year the "Christian Values Award." He got the award for helping his mate settle into year 5. His mate was upset and saying that he didn't think that he was ready for Yr 5. Luke managed to calm him down and let him know that he was probably more ready to for Year 5 than anyone else was. I was so glad to hear that Luke took the time for a friend.

Ben is going well too. We have his SRC Liturgy on Tuesday. So he will receive his badge. He is loving school. We are sad that we only have one term with his teacher as she is just gorgeous.

Well I am enjoying my new hours at school. I love being there for the kids in the afternoon and starting homework early. I feel like I am being a better mum now.

So all in all it has been a good start to the year. I hope the rest of it remains the same.

The Bush Fires

My mood has been very somber this week. Can't believe what is happening with the bush fires and that so many lives have been lost. So many people without homes to go to - I would like to do more. I have listened to so many horrible stories. The worst part is that the fires may have been deliberately lit. Unbelievable. I can't think of a worse way to perish. Anyone that has suffered a burn would know how painful they are. My love, hope, prayers and warm wishes are with all of those affected by this.

In True Nies Tradition

This has become a Nies tradition. You run for school SCR (Student Representative Council) and when you are elected you decline and usually cry. Luke started the tradition a couple of years ago and now proudly Ben has decided to continue the tradition. On Friday his gorgeous teacher wanted to see me and it was to tell me that he had been elected as their class SRC BUT then had burst into tears and cried saying that he didn't want to do it. When I tried to open up a conversation with him he cried again. Luckily his teacher gave him the weekend to think about it and I have managed to overcome his fear of the unknown. He is going to break the embarrassing tradition and give it a go. Our first SRC Rep or maybe - can't be too certain. Yippeee!!!

I am sure that my kids enjoy the embarrassment that this brings for me. This time I just laughed and thought that would be right. So Luke decides that this is his year to give SRC a go - I think I am ready this time Mum. Well things don't always work out the way that you want them to as he was out voted by his best friend by two votes. Never mind - there is always next year. I guess they are just really asking themselves the question that I ask myself everyday - to lead or not to lead???

Funny. I think what won Ben over was I told him that he got to wear a fancy badge each day and that he got to keep it. We will see how he goes????? Kids - they certainly colour your lives.

A Cracker of Weekend

Well I managed to pack heaps into my weekend - I am sad that it is over. Friday I had furniture delivered, saw friends and went to an ultra-sound with my sister. She is now sure that it is only one and not twins - yes she was a little relieved. Then we went to the club for dinner. I also managed to fit a few little other things in like clipping the dog ready for the scortching heat and move a few things around in the house.

Saturday was spent shopping with my sister for baby clothes. We had a great day and it is fun checking out the baby section again - I forgot what it was like. Then I come home and packed and we went up to Umina to Ang and Rob's (our new holiday house. We went to the beach in the evening and enjoyed a sunset over the water. Then we watched Australia - while I really enjoyed. I love being up the Central Coast - so nice and relaxing. It is a pity that time goes so quickly.

Sunday we hoped up and went back to the beach for a few hours. The water was so clear and so fresh - just beautiful. Everyone had a good time. I even love the car trip as I get to read my book and usually the kids sleep all the way back because they are exhausted. Everyone is a winner.

While at the beach the kids did the usual things. Ben built a fancy castle and decorated it with shells and the kids took to surfing the sand dunes on their boards. Ben was quite good at it and could nearly make it to the bottom. Georgia looked like a lamington by the time that she got to the bottom only she was covered in sand rather than coconut. I love the photo of the boys running along the beach on sunset.

Thank you Ang and Rob (and kids) for letting us stay and for your hospitality. We have had a great time. I haven't seen Chris enjoy his weekends as much in a long time. Very enjoyable. Well we probably won't return until March now as we don't want to wear out our Welcome!!!

A really good weekend.

Now there is only one thing that would top it off and that is a little of the scrapbooking that I promised myself I would do. I have an hour or two before dinner so I must make the most of it.

Good Memories

Last weekend we went to Umina on the Central Coast to the beach. We had such a beautiful day. Here are a couple of photos that I loved from the day. I hope that this weekend was as good as last. It will be hard to top. I don't know if the heat will keep us from the beach????

Well the working week is over and now it is time to play- Yippee!!!! I generally had a good week. School was good. Reflecting upon today I really do love the people that I work with - they are good guys.

OK I am off to do some much needed scrapbooking and I promise to share the results. I am also looking forward to watching Greys Anatomy - 2 hours tonight. I am going to love Thursday nights as Private Practice will follow soon. Have to admit that I am loving that all of the good TV is back.

Quote for the Day

Quote for the Day:

'Whatever you give a woman, she's going to multiply. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby.
If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal.
If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her."
So — if you give her any crap, you will receive a ton of shit.'

OK girls let us keep this in mind. Don't mess with me boys and certainly don't give me any crap!!!!

Keep that multiplying going girls.

A Cracker of a Weekend

I have just had the best weekend ever. It is really going to be hard to go back to work tomorrow. It started on Friday when I met with some friends to do some shopping and thoroughly enjoyed the laughter and the chatting and trying to find someone out there to do my contacting. A sales assistant asked if she could help in in any way and I replied not unless you are willing to come home and do my contacting. She quickly retreated. So glad that you are back Helene and enjoyed the catch up Dan.

Anyway the contacting was completed on Friday afternoon - I just had to get it out of the way. Hate it and I didn't have that many job applications for the fantastic job.

Friday night we went to the club and met Mary to celebrate her birthday. She was excited about her present so that was good.

Saturday was a great day. I went to Scraploot with Belinda and shopped up a storm. Still haven't used the supplies but enjoyed the company. Hey Bel what time do I show up this Thursday for a Scrap???? How does 11.30am sound????? Have to leave at 2.00pm but I am sure that I can scrap a page in that time. Next it was off to lunch with my gorgeous friends - always good to catch up with them - love them to death. Thomas has grown so much as you can see and he is so cute - just want to pinch his cheeks. Then Saturday afternoon I worked my bum off doing household chores, bathed the dog,did Chris' paperwork and organsied things for the week ahead. I also watch Twilight for the 3rd time - slightly addicted. Is there a Twilight Anonomous out there????? I think that I need to make some confessions!

Sunday morning I hoped up early and did a few odd jobs. I was cleaning the bathroom when Chris asked if I wanted to go to the beach. So off we went to the Central Coast. We had a great day with Ang, Rob, Georgia and Chad. Sad to come home. Got my toes burnt - forgot to sunscreen those. Got to read my book in the car on the way up and home - life doesn't get any better.

Anyway I really feel that I have a full and fantastic weekend. I hope that there are more like them. Now to get the head back down and focus on school and getting my program and a number of other things up and running. I start my new hours this week and will now pick the boys up from school all but one day. Looking forward to being a better mum and giving them more attention of an afternoon.

Helene I am up for Bridewars on Friday sometime depending on our furniture deliveries. Will work it out with you.

Please leave a note and let me know how your weekend was.
