A Super Weekend

Well after a tough week at work we had a super weekend. We got ourselves really organised and we went the the Camden Show on Saturday afternoon. It is luck that the boys don't ask for a lot because the rides were really expensive eg $8-10 a pop. They got a show bag each and then we sat and watched the ring events for hours. My favourite part of the night was the Fireworks. They really do put on a good show. A great night!

Sunday we got up early and headed up to the Central Coast to hit the beach for maybe the last time before it gets too cold. The boys played for hours and we caught up with the family. It was good just to relax. We had a game of Piggy in the Middle with the four of us but I nearly always ended up in the middle. Ben was really good at the game.

There needs to be more time like this. The only problem is that to get a great weekend like this we have to be super organised to allow us to function the following week. There was no soccer game this weekend so we took advantage of this.

Hope that you all had a great weekend too!!!

A Beautiful Poem

I haven't blogged this week as yet as I am feeling a little flat. So much to do, achieve and take care of and not nearly enough time to do it all. It was a difficult day at work today. It wasn't one thing in particular - it was everything - so many situations that I have so little control over. All kids deserve a fighting chance and some of our little ones don't get nearly that.

So a beautiful friend sent me this poem and I just love it. Thanks Donna.

MAYA ANGELOU'S'

BEST POEM EVER

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...

enough money within her control to move out
and rent a place of her own,
even if she never wants to or needs to...
something perfect to wear if the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..

a youth she's content to leave behind....
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age....
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...
one friend who always makes her laugh... and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...

a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal,
that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..

a feeling of control over her destiny...
how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without;
ruining the friendship....

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW....

when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

that she can't change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..
that her childhood may not have been perfect...but it's over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

what she would and wouldn't do for love or more...
how to live alone... even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. .

whom she can trust,
whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

where to go...
be it to her best friend's kitchen table..
or a charming Inn in the woods...
when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

What she can and can't accomplish in a day...
a month...and a year...

Hope that all of your beautiful woman out there muddling your way through life (as I am) have all of these things. And watch out it could be your kitchen table that I turn up at. I also have a past that I look forward to laughing about in old age (heck I laugh about it now). Love Ya girls!!!!

The Most Dangerous Cake Recipe in the World!!!

Hey Girls enjoy this one, give it a try......

This may be the Most Dangerous Cake Recipe in the world!!! Here we are ladies, let me know who's the first to try it. I was sent this recipe and thought it might come in handy when we really need chocolate...now!
Now I know that a few of us might need this.
xx

The Most Dangerous Cake Recipe

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

a small splash of vanilla extract

1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high). The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

You are going to print this out straight away, aren't you? I was going to include a photo of one that I made earlier but it didn't last long enough for me to get the camera out. Nice with a scoop of your favourite icecream! ENJOY!!!

I Love My Job

This week was a super week. I had a great week with lots of fantastic lessons. I have been working in classrooms to try and improve the writing skills of our children. Now I think that biggest thing blocking writing is kids poor attitude towards it and their lack of motivation. Well that is what I targeted this week and I saw a huge change in some of the kids. I feel that I may have turned the light on for a few kids. I had kids asking if they could take paper out at lunch time so that they could write and a few tell me how much fun writing was. I also had parents complaining that their kids were staying up too late because they were writing. What a great feeling. The rooms were buzzing. This is why I become a teacher - to turn the lights on!!! The best things was that all kids were achieving - even the less able. I found that the kids that were less able to write have the best imaginations and they were the ones coming up with all of the fantastic ideas. I hope that I can keep the kids motivated. I haven't felt this good about teaching for a while. Looking forward to the week ahead. I realise that to be a teacher is a huge privilege in the regards that you get to shape so many little lives. It is not a privilege that I take lightly.
